New Year’s Vision Board

0

For 2024, I want to be more intentional with my vision for self-improvement. I want to set myself up to create better habits throughout the upcoming new year. I have thought a lot about how I can do it differently than in the years past. After doing some research, I came across vision boards. I decided that for this new year, I would create a family vision board.

We are all guilty of saying we will accomplish these big New Year’s resolutions but tend to give up on them quickly. At the start of 2023, I had one goal, to start getting into reading books again. I finished twenty books by the end of November. It was a huge accomplishment for someone who had not read much since my nursing school days. For 2024, my new year’s vision board will not only include my personal goals, but also goals that we can work on as a family. I have it electronically so that I can have it as the background on my laptop and a printed copy to have on our fridge at home as well.

My Family’s New Year’s Vision Board

By including my family in my visions for 2024, I knew I would have the support needed to obtain these goals. I also thought it would be a fun way to discuss upcoming plans for the new year together. Things that we can look forward to as a family. I stuck to specific categories to have habits and goals that would focus on not only my individual goals but also my family ones.

My New Year’s Vision Board Game Plan

Setting habits that support your mental well-being can have a direct effect on your everyday life. Regardless of what your goals are for 2024, having a plan to focus on helps you focus on your well-being habits throughout the year. For me, I liked the idea of a vision board for the visual reminder. It can also hold me accountable throughout the year.

The best way to start is to approach your new habits with a positive mindset, as there have been studies that explain how being positive assists in developing new habits. For 2024, I wanted to focus on family, health, home, travel, personal growth, and purpose/passion/peace categories. For each category, I wrote down two to four short statements of habits or goals that I would like to achieve by year-end. Then I used images related to them to inspire me and my family throughout the year. My vision board has also become my action plan.

Besides my visions of 2024, I know that continuing to work on adequate sleep and rest are important for keeping my goals in line, by giving my body time to unplug.

Vision Board Categories

Family: For family I wanted us to focus on spending more quality time together with the busy days that come throughout the year. I want us to learn something new together, spend more time outside doing activities, play more games and puzzles, and cook or bake together.

Health: My health category focuses on staying more active, continuing to drink adequate amounts of water, and focusing on eating healthy, for myself and my family.

Home: For my home, I simply want to make some small improvements to our house. Hang up those pictures I haven’t gotten around to yet, and touch up some paint. Take the time to just make our space a little cozier and more functional!

Traveling: In 2024, I want to focus on traveling to explore more of the areas close to home. It’s not about a big tropical vacation necessarily, but just learning more about the wonderful areas surrounding us whether it’s right here in Central Mass, Maine, or New Hampshire. I really want to go on a family camping trip as well. We love the outdoors and camping is a must!

Personal Growth: For my personal growth category, graduate school is a huge one for me. I want to put my focus on learning and expanding my career. One class at a time, I know I can start building up my goals for my future. I also want to keep reading. As long as I take some time to relax and read something for personal enjoyment that’s what I am aiming for.

Purpose/Passion/Peace: My purpose, passion, and peace category is one of my favorites. A category simply for me to focus on something for myself. Some much-needed mom self-care. I want to continue writing because it is something I really enjoy. I would also like to try starting a vegetable garden. This is something we can also do as a family giving us another opportunity to spend time outside together.

How Will I Stick to My Habits & Goals

So now I have my 2024 Vision Board but how am I going to keep up with my goals through the year? By creating your vision board, you already have your visual cue for motivation. I recommend using small goals and coming up with a reward for yourself for your accomplishments. Think about that end goal and how great it will feel to look back at how you improved yourself and your well-being in 2024.
