Christmas Traditions I’m taking into Valentine’s Day

0

A few years back, I wrote a blog detailing how we had adopted a tradition of having a “Valentine’s tree”.  While this had stemmed greatly from my toddler’s great love of the Christmas tree, the concept has gone much deeper into our home. Not only does this tree shift for every season and holiday (well, when Mama remembers, of course), but we have also come to embrace that we simply can’t do it all. Well, on schedule that is.

By adopting an attitude of peace, skipping some activities in December, we get to keep the crafting and baking going. Of course, we also do get to maybe repeat some favorites!

Salt Dough Ornaments

Okay, you guessed it on this one.  They, of course, go right over to the “Valentine’s Tree”.  We grab the heart-shaped cookie cutters and go to town.  As my daughter is getting a little older now, I think this year we may paint or stamp on some fun sight words, “sweethearts” style.

Dried Orange Garland

The white lights in my dining room window bring me so much joy that I never actually take them down. This year, we will be drying our citrus a little late and adding on some fun hand-cut felt or cardstock hearts. White, red, and pink beads in between slices fully embrace the season of love.

Gingerbread Houses

So fun during the holiday season, but let’s face it, also so time-consuming. Now that there is a little bit more time, I find Valentine’s Day to actually be the best time to do these. My mom bought us a set of cookie cutters to create the houses at home. We may even do a sugar cookie variation this year. Target also has some pre-baked options!

A Village

I’d honestly never go without my Christmas village, but we swap it out now for a girl’s dream village.  Pink and White House’s galore.  Poodles and pink trees.  Heart garland all around.  Target has a great selection of $5 supplies, and we love to mix in some fun paint-your-own selections from Michael’s or Hobby Lobby.

Have fun keeping some holiday joy in your home this Valentine’s season! What ideas would you add to this list?
