Crafts are my jam, and I love doing them with my kids. After I had my oldest, I got really into it because it was a way that I felt like myself while I was also working/being a mom. The pandemic really made this go wild on steroids because we were home, and that was what we did. Thank goodness there wasn’t a shortage of paper, markers, crayons, or chalk because we would have been in dire straits.
With Easter around the corner, I wanted to share some of my family’s favorite Easter crafts below:
The Easter Window
We started seasonal windows during the pandemic to celebrate birthdays and holidays. It is a tradition that is still standing, and I love to see the excitement in their faces when they come home from school or help put their idea to life. If you do not want to draw/cut/tape things up yourself, the Target dollar section is usually stocked with window clings to make this easy (and I believe they are $1 a set, so very affordable). If you have a Cricut, the Design Space has so many fun images you can cut out and make your own window.
Decorate Eggs
No one in my family enjoys hard-boiled eggs, so dying eggs was not a tradition in my family until two years ago when I came across these in Michaels. They can be dyed just like a normal egg or painted, so it leaves a lot of options (and are cheaper to buy a dozen due to rising egg costs). It is also a universal age activity. I find my 7-year-old coming up with more intricate designs, while my 2-year-old loves to just cover the egg in whatever color combination feels good for the moment.
Free Printables
Need something to get you through making dinner, or just need a peaceful moment in the day? This site saves my life with activities that can get my kids to sit down and do. You can make a basket with eggs (great fine motor work with scissors and glue) or just download the coloring pages and let them go to town with whatever coloring instrument tickles their fancy. Central Mass Mom offers free printables for the holidays, too. Grab your download here.
Craft Kits
As an avid crafter, I spend a lot of my free time in Michaels and always pick up their crafting kits. I love them because they are affordable with their sales and coupons, and I can find things that work for every age of my kids. They also make a nice reason to send mail to grandparents for their refrigerators. Here are some of my tried and true favorites:
- Foam Egg Kit
- Easter Basket Kit
- Easter Egg Suncatcher
- Egg Coloring Boards
- Craft Stick Bunny
- Pom Pom Plate Craft
