Favorite Sad Movies to Watch for a Good Cry

sad moviesDo you ever have a day where you just want to sit down and cry? The best solution for me is to turn on a sad movie and just let the tears flow. Personally, that is the most therapeutic thing I can do to make myself feel better when I am feeling down. I went to Social Media to find other people’s favorite sad movies to watch for a good cry, and there were quite a few different ones I’d never heard of. There may be some spoilers contained in this article so if you haven’t seen some of these movies I recommend just reading the title and moving along.

Grab a box of tissues because below are some of my favorite sad movies for a good cry that makes me cry every time I watch them:

The Last Song

Most people think this movie is super corny, and I’m sure it probably is, but I’m a huge sucker for corny movies. Those are my favorite kinds. This one just hits me right in the gut. The way Ronnie transforms from this girl to wants no relationship with her father to being by his side on his deathbed is just so beautiful to watch. And the super cheesy love story that occurs, as well, is just lovely. It is guaranteed when I watch this that there will be sobbing.

The Notebook

This one is obvious, but how can it not make the list? Everything about this movie is “ugly cry” worthy, and I just love it so much. From the story of Allie and Noah as an elderly couple to watching their relationship begin and unfold. This movie is just too good and such a tearjerker.

A Walk to Remember

Have you noticed I love the Nicholas Sparks theme yet? This movie is not only one of my favorite movies to cry to, but this is also one of my all-time favorite movies. The story of Landon changing from a rebel and falling in love with the preacher’s daughter and turning into a dream guy that every parent would want to marry their daughter is spectacular. And then Mandy Moore singing in the movie just makes the whole thing better. Such a beautiful and emotional movie.

Mamma Mia: Here I Go Again

This is probably a shocker that this made the list, but this made the list for a personal reason. The first time I watched this movie was after I had my first miscarriage when I learned I was pregnant with my son. When Sophie learns she’s pregnant just shattered my heart into pieces. She then sings a beautiful song, and I still dedicate that song to my son to this day. I sob every time I watch this movie, specifically that scene.

The Fault in Our Stars

Where do I begin with this movie? If you haven’t seen it yet, I recommend watching it with a whole box of tissues. You will need them. This movie will make you sob uncontrollably. Once you start, you will not be able to stop. This is a perfect movie to watch when you want to cry.

Some honorable mentions that were also recommended for a good cry:

  • Up
  • Steel Magnolias
  • Fried Green Tomatoes
  • P.S I Love You
  • The Lion King
  • Titanic
  • The Joy Luck Club

There are so many great sad movies out there. Are any of these movies on your list? Do you have any additional good cry movies to add to this list? Let us know in the comments or by tagging us @centralmassmom.
