I love brewing coffee each morning at home. The ritual of it all, the smell that wafts upstairs, and the first, slow and savored sip. There is no other way to start the day (shout out to Union Coffee Roaster for the best beans ever). Despite that, I still have some tried and true local favorite coffee spots on my list. Whether it is for an afternoon pick-me-up, a morning work session, or a coffee date with my husband, I love having some special places to visit.
Here are three of my favorite coffee spots in the North Central Mass area to visit:
Littletown Coffee Co.
While this first option isn’t actually a coffee shop in the traditional sense, it is one you just can’t miss! Casey, the owner, can be found slinging the best-darned coffee around in an adorable little trailer converted into a traveling coffee shop. Based out of Littleton, the trailer can be found in a variety of locations including Theo’s Market Gardens in Littleton, the common in Chelmsford, and Maxwell’s Winter Market in the colder months. Find the trailer at Ferjulian’s in Hudson during tulip season (usually late April-early May). Let your little one help you bring home a stunning bouquet while you enjoy your coffee!
Personally, I recommend the iced Ole Salt Latte and absolutely any of the baked goods available (made by Bliss Confection Co.). As an allergy mom, I appreciate that there are typically some gluten-free or dairy-free options!
Salt & Light
Nestled in Groton, Salt & Light is a cozy yet bright place that is part coffee shop and part boutique. They have struck just the right mix of cool vibes and amazing food and drink. Grab a street parking spot (easy enough to find) and head in for a relaxing time. Let me tell you right from the start, get the avocado toast, lemon ricotta pancakes, and the cold brew. It’s all perfection.
My husband and I love coming here for a time to work side by side or to have a moment without the kids in tow. There are plenty of tables to grab a seat, but also some cozy chairs to relax in. Grab a spot at the bar seating and enjoy some people watching through the big front windows. If you are in a hurry, consider ordering ahead on the Toast app. For something extra sweet, try their homemade donuts which are only available on Saturdays.
Harvard General Store
This one is such a fun and unique find. Harvard General Store not only sells tasty coffee and food, but also craft beer, wine, prepared food to go, and local items like candles, soaps, shirts, and more. Occasionally, they offer small events or open mic nights in their upstairs space. This is often my pick when meeting up with a friend for a cup of coffee and some conversation. The seating at the front windows allows for a great view of the outside. Facing both a large green space and the main intersection in town, you can easily watch the world pass by while enjoying your coffee. In the warmer months, you can relax at one of the plentiful picnic tables just outside.
I usually enjoy a standard cup of hot brewed coffee here and pair it with one of their fresh pastries. For something heartier, I recommend the Cali Sunrise breakfast sandwich. If your visit finds you closer to the lunch hour, you can’t go wrong with their TBTA (turkey, bacon, tomato, avocado) sandwich.
So, while I love having coffee at home (and so does my budget!), I do enjoy the occasional outing to a local favorite coffee spot. Especially as a mom, there really is something special about your coffee being made for you. All that’s left to do is enjoy! Let me know which of these three places you will add to your list and which one I should try next.
