Things I’ve Accomplished This Year: What Really Matters

0

We are a few months into the new year, and the “new year, new me” energy has retreated until next January. So, let’s review where things are at. I have yet to drop 15 pounds, and I have yet to follow a monthly deep-cleaning schedule. I have yet to follow a protein-packed, nutrient-dense meal planning system. Oof, what a start. If you’re anything like me, you may relate.

Want to know what I have done this year?

  • I have laid in a mountain of blankets and pillows on the couch with my youngest when she had a fever while watching Frozen for the gajillionth time.
  • I have made about 90 meals to feed my family (including only 1 slightly burned grilled cheese—That’s a new record!
  • I have listened to stories about good days, bad days, and somewhere-in-between days at school from my oldest.
  • I have taken the dogs out first thing in the morning on snowy days, even though my husband usually does it. Acts of service are forever my go-to love language.
  • I have cheered on my budding basketball player, who loves to practice dribbling.
  • I have said yes to messy activities when there really is no good reason to say no.
  • I have returned to my kiddo’s room for a 4th time for “just one more hug” at bedtime.
  • I have used the spare minutes in the car before school pickup time to read just for the enjoyment of it.
  • I have found a way to not lose it when my son slams a ball into the wall or window or TV for the millionth time while he practices his “Dude Perfect” trick shots (if you know, you know).
  • I have prioritized (along with my husband) time for at-home date nights after the kids go to bed instead of scrolling on my phone for hours.

What Really Matters

So, my unachieved resolutions and new year goals have yet to completely reshape my world into the perfect life. But, after taking a pause, I realize our life actually is pretty wonderful just the way it is. I’m going to let some of those resolutions stay on the back burner for now while I stay busy with things that are way more important—what really matters.

What things have filled your year so far that actually truly and deeply matter?
