It’s spooky season! Ghosts. Goblins. Witches. Oh my! Which also means there are so many fun, cute, and spook-tacular activities you can do with your littles!
Here is a list of Halloween craft ideas and projects you can do together to get in the spooky spirit:
Cotton Ball Ghost
This project is great for toddlers and preschoolers because it instills independence. You can also discuss different emotions with your child and make the ghost display those emotions with its face. The kiddos can complete this project with very minimal assistance (just may need some supervision).
The materials include:
- ghost cutout
- glue
- cotton balls
- construction paper
- scissors
Trace a ghost cutout, or draw your own ghost. Have your kids cut the ghost out. Glue cotton balls onto the ghost template. Then, you can cut out different facial expressions from construction paper and glue them onto the cotton balls.
Paper Plate Pumpkin
This project is fast and easy, which are my two favorite kinds. Especially since I have an active child who doesn’t like to sit and do projects. The materials are probably also all items you have around your home already.
Here are the necessary materials:
- paper plate
- orange paint (you can even use a crayon or marker instead)
- construction paper
- scissors
- glue
Use the orange paint (or marker/crayon) and cover one side of the paper plate. Then, use black construction paper to create the face of the pumpkin and glue it on the orange plate. Finally, create a stem with brown construction paper and voila! The cutest little jack-o-lantern.
Paper Bag Haunted Houses
This craft allows for so much creativity for the child. If you prepare the pieces for them, let them design the house themselves and see what they come up with. It also allows you to have a conversation with your child about how they came up with the design and what parts of the house they made. These also make great decorations to put all over your house.
Here is a list of materials needed:
- paper bag
- paint
- cardstock paper
- glue
- cotton balls
First, you paint the bag with paint (if you use acrylic paint, the colors will pop). While the paint dries, prepare the pieces for your house. Once the paint is dry and the pieces are ready, glue them on and see what the final outcome is.
Handprint Ghosts
The handprint and footprint projects are my absolute favorite because they’re a great keepsake to remember how little your baby was at one point. There are so many different options you can do with their little hands and feet. All you need is paint, paper, maybe a marker to draw the faces on, and their little tootsies. The most adorable little spooky keepsake you could ask for.
