Things I Want My Kids to Remember About MeAs a parent, I often reflect on the kind of legacy I want to leave for my kids. There are a million little moments that make up a life, but when I think about the bigger picture, there are a few things I hope they’ll hold close as they grow older.

Here’s a list of 8 things I want my kids to remember about me long after I’m gone:

I Kept My Word

Trust is the foundation of any relationship. I want my kids to know that when I gave my word, I meant it. Whether it was a promise to attend their school show or a vow to support them through tough times, I want them to feel secure in knowing I always followed through.

I Had Fun

Life isn’t all about your running to-do list and the daily grind. I hope they remember that I made time for laughter, fun, and some ease amidst the everyday hustle. Whether it was family vacations, spontaneous dance parties in the living room, or talking in silly voices, I want them to know that having fun was just as important as everything else.

I Always Put Them First

While life is busy, I always try to make sure they know that they are my top priority. Whether it was sacrificing personal time to be there for them or making sure their needs came before mine, I hope they’ll always feel the depth of my love and commitment.

I Was Their Rock

I want my kids to know that no matter how tough life got, I was always there for them. In good times and bad, I made sure they could lean on me, and I was a constant source of support, love, and encouragement.

I Made Time for Myself

As much as I poured into them, I also understood the importance of taking care of myself. Whether it was a Zumba class, reading, taking a bath, or just focusing on my own well-being, I hope they saw me modeling the balance between caring for others and nurturing my own needs.

I Was a Hard Worker

I never took the easy route when it came to providing for our family. Whether it was in my job, my relationships, or my commitments, I worked hard to make sure we had what we needed. I want them to remember that hard work, integrity, and accountability are values I held dear.

I Made Others Feel Special

One of the things I hope my kids remember about me is how I made an effort to make others feel special. Whether it was a friend, a colleague, or even a stranger, I always tried to show kindness, appreciation, and empathy. In a world where we can often be too focused on ourselves, I hope they saw me as someone who made a positive impact on the lives of others.

I Loved Life

Above all, I want my kids to remember that I loved life. I didn’t waste it. I didn’t just go through the motions—I embraced every moment, every challenge, and every opportunity for growth. I let my personality shine. Life is an incredible gift. I want them to remember that I saw the beauty in every stage of it.
