A Conversation with Your Friend on the Internet

0

I’m recording this voice to text while I’m watering the garden before I start work.

These days, I feel like I barely have time to sit down at a computer to write like this. And as moms, a lot of times we need to work smarter, not harder, to get it all done. (Let’s be real, we’re not ever getting it “all” done. Something, somewhere is giving.)

I was reflecting while I was out in nature (I find that gardening is such a good way for me to do this) on how many wonderful friends I have. I don’t know if friendships mean more to women, but I feel like, through all the different chapters of life, the anchor of having strong and meaningful friendships has always gotten me through.

That’s why I’m recording today and speaking from the heart. Maybe you need a friend or a reassuring voice. I think I often take for granted how many amazing friends I do have, and for everyone, it’s not as easy to connect or to reach out.

So today, I’ll just reach out.

What could you use right now? Do you need to vent? Do you need to laugh? Or do you need to cry? What would you tell me if I asked you how you were… like how you really were? No sugarcoating.

I’ve often found that friendships are just about being in community together. Sure, having a meal or coffee or a shopping date is fun, but what it’s really about is being in the same space and sharing the same energy.

Isn’t that it?

That’s the stuff.

Anyway, back to our conversation.

How’s the family, and what are the kids into these days? What’s in your Amazon shopping cart now that back-to-school is approaching? How are you feeling about the transition? What things can we talk through together?

As hectic as this time of year can be, I do love the routine that comes with fall and getting back into a rhythm that’s more predictable.

What brings you joy in the fall?

Let’s talk about marriage and relationships. Anything you need to get off your chest there? It’s so easy to focus on the kids and definitely takes more effort to go on a date night, or arrange childcare, or even a weekend away. But it’s so important. Got anything planned like that?

Anyway, I’ll leave you with this.

Find your tribe. Heck, find one person you jive with. Say hello to someone today or just smile and get the conversation going. It doesn’t need to be staged, or complicated, or even make sense. Just do it. It’s not that deep.

As we look to a new season, turn the page and begin again.

Begin New.

Just begin.
