As a parent, you want to make sure that your children are well cared for, even after you are no longer here. As parents ourselves, we know how difficult it can be to make sure you’ve thought of all the little details, so we offer these guidelines to make it as easy for you as possible.
Name long term guardians
These are the people who will raise, love and care for your kids until they are adults.
Name short term guardians
These might also be called First Responders. These are the friends and neighbors close to your home who can stay with your kids until your long term guardians arrive for your kids. For some, that might only be an hour or two, but for others it can be a day or longer until long term guardians can arrive.
Create Caregiver instructions
We include our unique Kids Protection Plan for every family with young children. This is your opportunity to leave notes and instructions for babysitters and caregivers, so they know what to do in case of an emergency.
Carry an Emergency ID Card
Make sure you carry a Family Emergency ID Card in your purse or wallet that lists the names and telephone numbers of your First Responders. These are the people who can get to your home in a matter of minutes.
Record a Legacy Interview
This is the perfect way to share and leave behind the intangibles – the lessons and experiences of your life that will become a touching and lasting treasure for your loved ones. This is something you can leave that will be appreciated for years to come.
