25 Conversation Starters with Your Partner or Spouse

0

My husband and I are very fortunate to have each other and the support of our loved ones to help us with our son. They say it takes a village, and we certainly use ours! A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I had the opportunity to have a few-day-getaway, just the 2 of us, to Manchester, VT. Instead of trying to compromise on music, sitting in silence, or one of us scrolling through social media, we spent our trip finding fun (and some hard) conversation starters.

This not only made the time pass but also helped us to reminisce about some of our great pastimes, allowed us to be vulnerable with one another, and helped deepen the conversation about topics that may, at times, be difficult to discuss. The good thing about conversation starters is that you can be anywhere—on a walk, in the car, at the dinner table, relaxing on the couch, or lying in bed. The other good thing is that this can be for any couple, whether you are new in your relationship or “well-established.” My husband and I have been married for 12 years and together for 3 years before that, and we still enjoy this time connecting together. Communication is definitely one of the key factors in any relationship, and this is a fun way to get the conversation flowing or a fun way to reveal something embarrassing about your past!

Now, there are companies that sell “conversation starter” games, but many are available online for free, downloadable, and available in many different topics (favorite sport, movie, TV show, some are romantic, some are harder, but there is something for everyone). If you’re feeling ambitious, though, create your own list of conversation starters!

Here are 25 conversation starters for you and your spouse or partner to use:

  1. What first attracted you to me?
  2. What is your favorite memory of us?
