My family recently took our first vacation as a family of four. With so many logistics and details to coordinate, I was so relieved when I found direct flights right out of Worcester. My experience with Worcester Regional Airport (ORH) is one of the best I have had. And I used to travel extensively for a previous job and have flown out of airports of all sizes across the country. Here’s our experience flying out of the Worcester Regional Airport that might help you plan your next trip out of ORH.
The cost for our round-trip airfare was on par, if not a smidge cheaper than flights out of Boston. Not having to worry about traffic, rush hour or all the parking obstacles in Boston made our travel days so much more relaxing. Parking was straightforward. It was only a short walk to the terminal even with all our bags and a double stroller. The price to park our car for 10 days was about $65. This was a bargain, especially when comparing the parking costs to other airports.
We opted to arrive two hours before the flight which was more than enough time. There was only one ticketing agent and one security checkpoint so we did have a bit of a wait. It was still less than what a good day would have been at Logan.
With the extra time, we were able to watch some planes take off and land and walk some laps. One downside to this airport is the restaurant and convenience store near the gate seating areas. The restaurant was busy as it was the only option for passengers. It had pizza, some snacks, and drinks for purchase, but I found it less than basic. Make sure you pack extra snacks that your kids will eat because I couldn’t find much for my kiddos. It was pricey like all other airport stores.
We’re planning another trip to visit family at the end of the year. Instead of flying from Boston to Tampa, we’re changing our destination airport to Orlando. This way we can fly directly out of Worcester again! The hour’s drive to our destination in Florida was well worth the flight adjustment, and the airfare cost was the same.
Travel can be so stressful, especially with young kids. I am so excited that Worcester is adding more flights and airlines to build on this great resource in our region to make travel more accessible, affordable, and stress-free for all. Bon voyage!
