Davis Days: A Breakdown of Davis Farmland

0

In Sterling, MA, Davis Farmland is not your average children’s discovery farm! For the past three years, my family and I have been members of Davis Farmland, so let me break down what you can expect to find at the BEST place for young kids in Central Mass (IMO).

Here are a few of the things your family can do at your Davis Farmland visit (they have 50+ activities):

Animals

Davis Farmland has North America’s largest collection of endangered livestock breeds. There are SO many different animals to check out at Davis Farmland. Kittens, bunnies, birds, and ferrets in the “Critter Corner” (ready to be snuggled and some are even up for adoption!), goats, sheep, lambs, donkeys, cows, a pony, a turkey, llamas, chickens, pigs, a camel, deer, emu, peacocks, ducks, alligators, tortoises, and an entire reptile section.

At Davis, your kiddos get to be Junior Farmers! They can interact with baby goats, lambs, chickens, and a huge tortoise that roams free all day (you can even feed certain animals if you purchase the animal food). In the Reptile Ranch, my kids have pet or held snakes, bearded dragons, and even a baby alligator. Kids can brush the cows and even help the farmers feed them their bottles of milk. At certain times of year, kids can help shear the sheep and collect chicken eggs. The hands-on animal experience at Davis Farmland is amazingly unique and special! Make sure to catch a wagon ride through the pasture to get even closer to some of the animals.

Mootown

A child-size pretend town, which includes a campground, veterinary office, ice cream shop, grocery store, diner, schoolhouse, house with baby dolls, an RV, a music room, and so much more! Don’t forget to check out the “dark slide” (as my daughter calls it), which you can find on the second floor of one of the pretend barns. This section also has ample shaded seating for parents or snack time!

Imagine Acres

This section includes a water play area for gem mining, fishing, and duck races.  It boasts a huge sand play area, many playground structures, and a Jungle Jumperoo. Operate an excavator in the “Cow-struction” area. Swing and smile on the Baby & Me swings. Get ready to JUMP on the huge bounce pad or the inflatable bull (aka: Inflata-Bull).

Play & Spray

This is New England’s largest, zero-depth water spray park, and it is AWESOME! In addition to fun sprayers like a “car wash”, there is also an inflatable water slide, a giant slip-n-slide, and a super exciting Bubble Blast section. This area offers plenty of shade and picnic tables. The Play and Spray area was completely renovated for the 2025 season. We can’t wait to check it out!

Adventureland

This active and fun area has several playground structures, pedal carts (aka: “Goat carts”), scooters, and an 80-foot Super Slide (or “potato sack slide” as we call it!). Kids can dig for dino fossils in the sand, build a log cabin, hop through the bunny trail, and so much more.

As you can see, there is A LOT to do here! It is a large space, but I don’t find it overwhelming. The staff is wonderful, and the facility caters to families and little ones. They even have a mascot, Moo Moo, who makes appearances throughout the day!

Family-Friendly Finds at Davis Farmland:

  • Family-sized restrooms: On each side of the park, there is a family-sized restroom which includes a regular size AND toddler size toilet, PLUS a changing station, PLUS two different height sinks all in one room. The regular restrooms also include a toddler-size stall and a lower-height sink!
  • Free sunscreen and bandages (at the front entrance and throughout the farm in the “Boo Boo Stations”).
  • Free baby wipes are in the bathrooms and on picnic tables.
  • Water bottle refill stations.
  • Areas to buy food: They have a full-size BBQ restaurant, as well as a grab-n-go area and more traditional fast food options (and ice cream with pineapple dole whip too – YUM!). You are also welcome to bring in your own food!
  • Private Baby Feeding Room: Enjoy an air-conditioned room with a rocking chair while you feed your baby. This room also includes a changing station, as well as toddler toys to keep your older child busy while you tend to your little one!
  • Security:
    • Each family has a matching number on their wristbands, which is checked at the exit 100% of the time. You cannot leave until a farmer matches the number on your wristband to that of your child’s.
    • Davis Farmland is completely enclosed.
    • Adults are only permitted onto the farm if they are accompanied by a child 12 years and younger.
  • Reentry: Need to leave for nap time? No problem. You can reenter on the same day as long as you keep your wristband on.

So, how much is it? Price varies based on the time of year (whether the splash pad is open or not). In April 2025, the daily admission is between $29-$32 per person (kids under 2 are free). I feel that the price is fair given the experience. They also offer several days throughout the season where you or a family member can get in for FREE! Davis Farmland offers free days/weekends for Moms, Dads, teachers, first responders, and Grandparents! Look for discounted tickets from some libraries and memberships like MTA/AAA. Memberships are available, which are totally worth it if you plan to go more than 5 times per year. Plan ahead and put a Davis membership on your next birthday or holiday wish list!

Davis Farmland is open from mid-April through the end of October. I hope you enjoy your Davis Days as much as I do!
