Depending on where you live in Central Mass, you might not have much access to many clothing stores that stock nursing-friendly clothing. Many moms are breastfeeding for up to two years or more, so where do we go for cute and fun clothing that we can comfortably wear to breastfeed in public?
Back in the day when we were born, our mothers had very little in regards to clothing they could breastfeed in, especially out in public, and it sure wasn’t as nice as it is now. Breastfeeding in public wasn’t very common, so a regular t-shirt and maternity bra were usually enough. Nowadays, we all lead very busy lives, and many moms find breastfeeding in public places much more commonplace.
Here are a few of the best places to buy nursing-friendly clothing, both in person and online:
Walmart & Target
Up here in North Central Mass, there aren’t a lot of places where you can go to try on maternity and nursing-friendly clothing in person, at least not that I know of. Walmart has a small selection of maternity clothing and very few things made specifically for nursing. I managed to find a few spaghetti strap tank tops with nursing clips, but I haven’t found them to be particularly supportive, and they are a little too stretchy. Target also has some basic maternity clothing and a few nursing bras, but their nursing clothing selection was no bueno. Neither of these places was really worth my time. While a larger department store like Macy’s might have had a better selection, the distance you’ve got to travel or the price tag might not be an option.
Online options
These days, moms have much more luck with online stores where you can specifically find what you are looking for, but of course, this comes with the big downside of not being able to try things on to find your size. There are lots of options online, such as Amazon, which is an easy go-to for everyone, and if you search around your algorithm on social media will send you a few advertisements.
Latched Mama
Probably my favorite of the mom-friendly clothing companies. Run by moms, for moms, and you can bring your kids to work with you. They often have sales going on, so you can get some really good deals. I’ve gotten some super cute rompers and dresses that I’ve gotten tons of compliments about, and being able ot breastfeed in them is just a big plus! I find they are often quite stretchy and can be loose, so sizing down has worked for me. There are lots of different styles of t-shirts, so you can pick what’s most comfortable for you. The downside of the double front layered t-shirts is that the flap is a long way down, so when there is a crying baby on your lap or you are trying to nurse in the car or some other undesirable place, it can be a little difficult and time-consuming to get yourself ready.
Kindred Bravely
Your one-stop shop for nursing bras. I got the cutest ruffled labor and delivery gown. All the snaps are in all the right places for the doctors and nurses to access whatever they need to. They also seem to have regular sales, which is a good thing because their bras are definitely on the pricier side, but they sure are quality!
Nursing Queen
One of those advertisements from Facebook that I actually bought something from. Their t-shirts and dresses are cute and definitely don’t look like they are nursing-friendly! This brand opens up with an invisible zipper. This means you don’t need two hands free to comfortably zip and unzip for your hungry baby.
Thankfully, nursing-friendly clothing has come a long way. You don’t have to spend your time in baggy t-shirts and yoga pants, unless you want to! You can still look cute, go out, and breastfeed in public!
