5 Ways to Show Appreciation to Your Spouse When You’re Both Exhausted

Here’s a scenario for you. You’ve recently had your second baby. The toddler still needs your attention, and mummy is number one. The baby is screaming for a feed, and you’ve already worked a full day. But oh wait, you have a partner too, and you don’t want to forget them either. They were the reason you both started a family to begin with, and they need a little appreciation, too.

Here are five quick ways that you can show a little appreciation to your spouse when you are both exhausted:

  1. Don’t go to bed without a kiss and an “I love you,” even if you are going to bed at different times. If your partner is staying up to clean or look after the baby so you can sleep, drop in an “I appreciate you”. It will go a long way!
  2. Little acts of service. Make them a cuppa, give them the last cookie, prep their lunch, and have it ready for them in the morning. Any little thing that you can do to help a spouse out. Are you the lunch box notes kinda mom? Why can’t this work for your spouse, too!
  3. Plan a date night, even if it is still going to be a while until you get it. The act of discussing and planning together can be really stress-relieving and get you excited about what’s to come. Start looking up new places you’ve never been to, or get nostalgic and talk about going back for a date night at the place you first met.
  4. Figure out his love language and incorporate it into your day. If he is into acts of service, thank him for the menial tasks. Physical touch? A quick hand squeeze or a peck on the cheek. Gifts? Get his favorite drink or snack on the next supermarket run and then try not to eat it yourself.
  5. Clean the darn microwave.
