The recent halt to SNAP benefits has been a frequent topic of concern for many families. To help meet the need, several local restaurants are stepping into action to ensure those who rely on SNAP have access to nutritious meals.
If you or someone you know could use this support right now, the businesses listed below are offering assistance. Remember to check directly with each restaurant for specific details on their process, as procedures vary—some may require showing a SNAP card upon pickup, while others may have daily capacity limits.
American Flatbread in Worcester (as well as Brighton, MA, and Rockport, ME)
Show your SNAP card to receive one small Medicine Wheel pizza. This offer is for takeout only and allows one per party, per day, subject to availability. A gluten-free crust is available for families with allergies or intolerances. Takeout orders can be placed in person or over the phone. This offer does NOT apply to orders placed via delivery apps.
Taqueria del Pueblo in Worcester (2 locations)
Until the government shutdown ends, families in need can show their SNAP card to receive a free bowl of rice and beans with a choice of chicken, carnitas, or no meat. This is available at both Highland Street and Green Street locations.
Little Cocoa Bean Co. in Boston (located at The Children’s Museum)
Income-constrained families can come to feed their children for free. You do not need to go to the museum to go to the cafe. If you represent an organization gathering food or resources, please DM @littlecocoabeanco on Instagram. They can prepare meals for families you serve.
Fourth & Field in Stow
Families living in Acton or Stow in need of support can request a pasta dinner and garden salad Tuesday through Friday (11/3 – 11/7) for families of 4-5 people. To request a meal, email [email protected] with the subject line “pickup one pasta dinner” or call 978-925-4126. 10 meals will be available each day.
Woo Fridges throughout Worcester
Community fridges are open 24/7. Woo Fridges partners with farms, grocers, and local restaurants to rescue food that would otherwise be thrown away. These food rescue missions support neighbors by increasing daily access to fresh, healthy food. Their free food initiative is rooted in mutual aid, meaning this is a fully community-run operation, not a charity.
