How To Maximize Your Massachusetts Teacher Discounts

0

Teachers can get some pretty sweet deals on attractions and museum passes if they know where to look. With Teacher Appreciation Week coming up in the first week of May, let’s look at some of the Massachusetts teacher discounts available so you can plan your family day trips accordingly!

Massachusetts Teacher Association Benefits

I often forget about the many benefits and discounts as a MTA member.

Here are a few good ones that are great for families:

  • View Boston, 25% off
  • Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum, free for MTA members
  • Patriots Hall of Fame, free for MTA members
  • Eric Carle Museum, Free for MTA members
  • Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory and Gardens, $1 discount
  • Worcester Art Museum, 50% discount
  • Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, 2-for-1 or 50% off a single admission
  • New England Aquarium, Free for MTA members
  • Discovery Museum, Free for MTA members
  • Basketball Hall of Fame, $5 off
  • Jam Time (All locations), $2 off open play times
  • Witch History Museum, Free for MTA members
  • deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, Free for MTA members
  • New England Botanical Garden at Tower Hill, free for MTA members
  • Stone Zoo, 50% discount
  • Franklin Park Zoo, 50% discount

Always show your MTA membership card and check out the library museum passes for discounts for other family members. Kids under two are free at most places, so if your timing is right, you could both get in for free!

Library Museum Passes

While not specifically a teacher discount, you can’t pass these up. If you aren’t a member of your local library, go sign up, because these discounts can be really worth it. Many of the museum passes they offer will double up with what the MTA offers for their discounts, so if you do a little research, you can find and use the better deal. Plus, if you are going with the whole family, you can get discounts for the other adults, while you get your free/bigger/discounted entry. The discounts offered through the library do vary, so you will have to check out what the discount is per location. My local library gives discount passes for places such as Ecotarium, Boston Museum of Science, Mass MoCA, and Davis Farmland, to name a few.

Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation Week takes place in the first full week of May every year. This year, that means May 5th to 9th. Many different discounts are offered this week, and plenty of places choose a day or even a week in the summer to celebrate it instead! So let’s see what’s available and what kind of discounts you can get.

Online & Shopping Discounts

Start searching around for teacher discounts to get the algorithm going, and your phone will end up suggesting so many places and businesses that offer you a discount. Starbucks, Tarte, and Adidas come to mind. Save up any gift cards that you might get from your workplace or the students, and use them for your online shopping needs for even more discounts!

Day Trips & Activities with Kids

  • Sturbridge Village, Sturbridge. Planning for next year, this past February school vacation, Sturbridge Village offered free entry for teachers. In March and April of this year, kids got in for free.
  • Lego Discovery Center, Boston. For the whole month of September, teachers get in for free plus can take up to 6 guests for 50% off! Kids under 1 are still free. I used this pass last year to bring 3 other adults (one 16-year-old, but they paid as an adult), and my little one was free. What a steal!
  • Davis Farmland, Sterling. Can’t beat a free teacher and an underage toddler for a day filled with free fun! Their teacher appreciation week takes place in the summer, and they are improving their splash pad for this season!
  • Southwick Zoo, Mendon. Pop on over to this family favorite on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, from 10 a.m. for free teacher admission!
  • The Rail Trail Flatbread Co., Milford/ Hudson. Teachers eat free on Wednesday, May 7th. Dine in at their locations for a free entree or a free small flatbread for teachers. Reservations are recommended!

Many locations and activities don’t advertise their teacher appreciation weeks in advance, so keep chatting with your fellow teacher moms and keep each other in the loop for what you find available. When you do find an awesome discount, spread the word, share those discounts, baby! If we missed any Massachusetts teacher discounts, let us know in the comments.
