Our family recently took a trip to Storyland in Glen, New Hampshire. Storyland opened in 1954. I remember going there as a child, which made it even more special and nostalgic to go with my own family.
Storyland has over 30 attractions, including:
- Amusement Park Rides: 2 rollercoasters, tea cups, flying
fish, ferris wheel, raft ride, bamboo chute (log flume), carousel, a pirate
ship, antique cars, Dutch shoes, farm tractors, swan boats, and more - Cinderella’s Castle: Ride in Cinderella’s pumpkin coach up to her castle to meet/take a picture with the princess. Note: Cinderella’s castle is closed from 12:30-1:30 PM and closes for the day at 4:30 PM.
- Live Shows: The Farm Follies Show and the Funky Fairy Tales are each offered twice daily, in the Farm Follies Theater. Daniel Tiger’s Grr-ific Day Show is offered three times per day in the Loopy Lab Theater.
- Loopy Lab Play Area: This is an inside area, attached to the Loopy Lab theater, featuring hundreds of soft balls that kiddos can put into various tubes/apparatuses and fly them through the air.
- Animatronic Show: The Melody Farms Vegetable Extravaganza show plays all day and is located near the exit.
- Carnival Games: Lucky Rubber Ducky Game, Los Bravos Mining Company Target Game, Fido’s Feeding Frenzy
- Train Ride: The Huff Puff Whistle Railroad gives you a tour of the whole park.
- Little Dreamers Nursery Rhyme Play Area: This is an interactive play area featuring themed props from classic nursery rhymes/tales such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Bears, Little Miss Muffet, Rock-a-bye baby, There Was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe, and more. You can even meet Mother Goose, and she will give you a Storyland sticker. - The Moo Lagoon: This is an interactive water playground area featuring a variety of slides for both big kids and littles, as well as several water sprayers, fountains, and squirting flowers. There is a large bath house for changing, plenty of Adirondack chairs to watch the kiddos from, a pizza shop for lunch, and a little store in case you forgot a swim diaper or towel.
- Add-ons: For an additional cost, you can book the Fairy Tale Wake-Up! Character Breakfast and/or Tea Time with Cinderella.
THE INSIDE SCOOP: Here’s what you really want to know before going to Storyland:
- Parking is free ACROSS THE STREET ONLY. There is an underground tunnel to take you across the road safely. Parking costs $10 in the main lot.
- You can go to Storyland from 2–5 PM the day BEFORE your full day visit for FREE. Take advantage of the extra three free hours if you can!
- You can bring your own stroller/wagon or rent a side-by-side double stroller for $11.50. The rental has two cupholders and a few pockets to hold extra supplies.
- Storyland is cashless. Make sure to bring your debit/credit card!
- The homemade lemonade is DELICIOUS! Buy it early in the day so you can take advantage of the $1 refills in the special Storyland cup.
- There are a few places to eat on site, but outside food and drinks are allowed as well. There are water bottle refill stations. Stop by the Dunkin Donuts near the main entrance if you need a pick-me-up (I sure did!!).
- There are a couple of nursing/baby care areas that are air-conditioned.
- Cinderella takes a lunch break from 12:30-1:30 PM. If you are first in line to ride in her pumpkin coach, Cinderella will join you for the ride when she comes back from lunch. We were first in line at about 1:15 PM, and it was so special to ride with the princess herself up to her castle!
- At 4:30 PM, Cinderella’s Royal Celebration of singing and dancing happens at the front of the park. At the end, kiddos can line up to take a photo with the fairytale team!
- This was our 4th trip to Storyland, so obviously we are big fans! Out of all our visits, this was our first time experiencing the waterpark since it is relatively new. I will have to say that the “sprayground” was overwhelming for my 3-year-old. She is normally a water LOVER, and she couldn’t get out of there fast enough. IMO, there were too many sprayers. They were everywhere, to the point where she could hardly open her eyes to see where she was going. It was hard for her to navigate the area with water hitting her in the face and trying to dodge all the kids. Did anyone else experience this? I am sure for older kiddos, the sprayers would be less of an issue. I think the little kids would enjoy the slides more if they toned down the squirters and took a simpler approach!
Storyland is a magical place that is sure to bring happiness to your entire family! I have such fond memories, both new and old, of days spent at this welcoming, family-friendly theme park.
